FAST includes an Age-Group program (12 & under age swimmers), and a Senior program (13 & over swimmers). The AG program has four different training groups, Teams 1, 2, 3, & 4 and they will train primarily at our Minerva Deland Pool. The Senior program has three different training groups, Senior 1, 2, & 3, and will train primarily at our Fairport High School Pool. Brief descriptions below will describe the various levels.
TEAM 1 is designed as a transitional introduction into the world of competitive swimming. Swimmers will learn the fundamentals (rules) of competitive swimming in a fun and dynamic environment.
TEAM 2 will emphasize stroke technique while beginning to learn the essentials of competitive swimming. Swimmers learn about practice habits, focusing on things such as how to use the pace clock and proper lane training etiquette.
TEAM 3 continues the skills taught from T2. There will be a focus on the continuation of stroke development, with the addition of more endurance training in the pool. The amount of practice time will increase from T2 to T3.
Age Group (12 & under age) swimmers that the coaching staff feel have a high commitment to the sport are in the TEAM 4 program. There is a continued focus on stroke development and endurance training. Attaining higher levels of age group competition are strongly encouraged on T4.
When FAST swimmers age up to 13, they are placed into the SENIOR 1 training group. Here, swimmers are properly coached on how to be “Senior” (13 & over age) swimmers. Also, swimmers in this group will be introduced to the FAST dryland program. S1 practices are offered 5 days a week, 90-120 minutes in duration.
SENIOR 2 is designed for HS aged swimmers (9th-12th grade). Workouts are a balanced combination of swimming and dryland work. Competitive skills coupled with proper race strategies will be emphasized on a daily basis. S2 practices are offered 6 days per week, 2-2.25 hours in duration.
This training group is made up of athletes who have demonstrated advanced commitment to the sport of club swimming. S3 athletes will train 6-9 workouts per week. S3 sessions will include dryland training both in team settings, and with individualized programs. Practices will range from 2-4 hours, depending on the training cycle and time of year.
