FAST is the only club in the Niagara District over the past 20 years to qualify and send swimmers to the Junior and Senior National Championships on a consistent basis.
The National Center
for Educational Statistics states that less than 1% of kids participating in
organized sports will receive a college athletic scholarship. It's not unusual for
FAST to achieve a quarter of a million dollars in scholarships, athletic and
academic, in any given year.
FAST swimmers have been scattered throughout the country at some of the top
colleges and universities.
Community service is another area where Fairport Area Swim
Team gives back to the community. Special
Olympics Swimming is on the FAST calendar every year, providing volunteer
assistance in running the local Special Olympics Swimming Championships. In addition, FAST sponsors the BOCES #1
swim team, and have been recognized for outstanding services at the annual
Special Olympics awards banquet.
Cash donations, raised by FAST swimmers, were presented to the Sylvia Korn fund at the prestigious Sports Woman of the Year
Luncheon.
FAST has had four
winners in the high school category for the WHAM Sports Woman of the Year. Receiving accolades were Amy Cottrill (1996) and Lindsey Crane (1999), both representing Fairport High School,
Holly Williams (2002) representing Palmyra
Macedon High School, and Erin McGraw representing Fairport High School (2006).
FAST has had two finalists, one in the high school category representing Honeoye Falls - Lima High School in 2004. Olympic trial qualifier Lindsay Henahan was an at large finalist in 2005.
The Fairport Area Swim Team promotes leadership through
athlete participation in the governing bodies of swimming at both the club and
district levels. Athlete representatives
serve their team members at the club level and if elected, serve on the
executive board of Niagara District Swimming, Inc. of Western N.Y. District athlete representatives attend
the National Aquatic Sports Convention.
FAST has had seven athlete representatives serve on Niagara Swimming’s Executive Board.
FAST has had several international travel and competitive
experiences. FAST teams have
traveled to the Czech Republic,
Germany, Austria,
Denmark, Sydney, Austrailia, and
most recently Hawaii in the summer 2005. FAST is unmatched in these experiences
of a lifetime.
FAST has a year-round premiere swimming lesson program,
that’s like no other in the area.
Our lesson program
provides lesson opportunities for the general population, as well as children
with special needs, autistic children and the hearing impaired/deaf
children.
FAST has a small community of deaf swimmers. Top honors went to FAST swimmer
Stephanie Danner, who qualified and competed in the World Deaf Games in Rome,
Italy.
The coaching staff of the Fairport Area Swim Team has over
70 years of combined coaching experience.
The staff is second to none with the ability and expertise to blend high
school swimming and club swimming.
Thousands of children have gone through the FAST program. The staff strives to be a positive
influence in their swimming lives.
