In addition, he works for the Fairport Central School District as an aquatics professional and substitute teacher.
While at FAST, Coach Callan has coached numerous athletes who have participated and excelled at all levels of competitive swimming - including the Niagara LSC, Eastern Zone, USA Sectionals, Grand Prix, Junior and Senior Nationals, Futures, US Open, World Cup Circuit, Open Water Nationals, Olympic Trials and US MASTERS Nationals. In 2018 he was presented with the Niagara LSC Senior Coach of the Year Award, 2019 the Niagara LSC Age Group Coach of the Year Award, and also the USA Swimming Lifetime Membership that same year. The USA Swimming Lifetime Membership was presented to Coach Callan at the annual Niagara LSC House of Delegates for his 30 years of volunteer service to the LSC. Callan is the youngest person to receive this honor in Niagara LSC history. Coach Callan's technical philosophy teaches swimmers the "BIG 4", invented by the world-renown swim coach Charles E. 'Red' Silvia of Springfield College. These teachings focus an athlete on the efficient application of muscular force in swimming while being as inertial as possible.
