Head/Lead Coaches and Advisors

The Fairport Area Swim Team (FAST) is part of the Niagara Swimming LSC and is a 501(c)(3) coach driven nonprofit organization supported by an appointed Board of Advisors. Our coaching staff is dedicated to creating an environment where each athlete will realize their potential, with competitive swimming as the guide.

Marci Callan Head Coach/Program Director

Coach Marci Callan is the Head Coach, Program Director, and CEO of the Fairport Area Swim Team (FAST). Marci has coached all levels in our program. Under her tenure, FAST has produced 7 U.S. Olympic Trial qualifiers.

Marci currently serves on USA Swimming's Coaches Advisory Council, Niagara LSC Age Group Development Committee, is the Chair of the Niagara LSC Governance Committee, and is a Rochester, NY Sports Commission Advisory Board member. She was the former Niagara LSC General Chair, serving three terms. Marci has also served as the coach-director for the Eastern Zone.

In 2005, she was named the Chair of USA Swimming's Age Group Development Committee, ultimately leading her to national recognition in 2007 when she was honored with USA Swimming's prestigious Outstanding Service Award due to her leadership & innovation with the committee. In 2008, Marci became the first woman from the Eastern Zone ever to be elected to the Board of Directors of USA Swimming and led FAST to achieve its first ever USA Swimming Bronze Medal of Excellence designation that same year.

Marci has been the Aquatics Director for the Fairport Central School District since 1982 overseeing all aquatic programming for the district. She's also the co-varsity girls' coach and a co-coach of the boys' and girls' modified team.

Outside of swimming, she enjoys going on walks and spending time with her grandson, Lennon!

Nicholas Weiner Chief Operating Officer & Vice President

Nicholas has been a member of FAST since 2009, starting at the swim school. Fast forward 10 years, and he became an instructor where he learned how to swim! Currently, he is our program's Chief Operating Officer & Vice President and additionally serves as an Age Group & Senior coach, staying engaged & connected with our athletes at all levels. Additionally, he works for the Fairport Central School District as an Aquatic Specialist and serves as the Assistant Coach for the Boys Varsity Swimming team.

Nicholas oversees all operations under the FAST umbrella. He was the driving force for the FAST revitalization project, which commenced in December 2021. His efforts have since benefitted 200+ swimmers and their families to date.

Nicholas is an active contributor of the Niagara Swimming LSC, serving as the Administrative Vice Chair and Senior Vice Co-Chair on the Executive Committee of the Board of Directors, and additionally serves on various operating and standing sub-committees. In 2024, Nicholas was the Camp Director of the inaugural Niagara LSC Long Course Distance Select camp, which was comprised of the top distance swimmers & IMX scorers in the LSC.

At the National level, Nicholas is a non-athlete member of USA Swimming's Registration/Membership committee. The purpose of this committee is to develop, administer, and communicate consistent policies and procedures among LSC Registration/Membership Coordinators. Nicholas is one of the youngest non-athlete members in Niagara LSC history to serve on a National committee.

Additionally, Nicholas has also been the Meet Director and Meet Operations Chair of several Niagara LSC and Eastern Zone championship level meets, most notably the Eastern Zone Age Group Championships, which routinely boasts 900+ competitors annually, generating an estimated economic impact of more than half a million dollars per year for the Greater Rochester and Buffalo areas.

Outside of swimming, Nicholas enjoys golfing, biking, kayaking, traveling, spending time in the Thousand Islands, and spending time with his friends & family.

Ryan Callan Associate Senior Head Coach (FHS)

Coach Ryan Callan is now in his 23rd season as a member of the FAST coaching staff.

During that time Coach Callan has worked directly with our senior (13 & over) programs. He also co-coaches the varsity boys swimming team at Fairport High School (NY), in his 19th season this year, and is the Head Coach of the Genesee Valley Masters USMS program at the Perinton Community Center. In addition, he works for the Fairport Central School District as an aquatics professional and substitute teacher.

While at FAST, Coach Callan has coached numerous athletes who have participated and excelled at all levels of competitive swimming - including the Niagara LSC, Eastern Zone, USA Sectionals, Grand Prix, Junior and Senior Nationals, Futures, US Open, World Cup Circuit, Open Water Nationals, Olympic Trials, and US MASTERS Nationals.

In 2018 he was presented with the Niagara LSC Senior Coach of the Year Award, 2019 the Niagara LSC Age Group Coach of the Year Award, and also the USA Swimming Lifetime Membership that same year.  The USA Swimming Lifetime Membership was presented to Coach Callan at the annual Niagara LSC House of Delegates for his 30 years of volunteer service to the LSC. Callan is the youngest person to receive this honor in Niagara LSC history.

Coach Callan is also an American Swimming Coaches Association (ASCA) Level 5 coach, the highest possible level. Coach Callan's technical philosophy teaches swimmers the "BIG 4", invented by the world-renown swim coach Charles E. 'Red' Silvia of Springfield College. These teachings focus an athlete on the efficient application of muscular force in swimming while being as inertial as possible.

Dylan Scheemaker Head Coach/Site Director (CA)

Coach Dylan Scheemaker is entering his 4th year as Head Coach/Site Director at our Canandaigua training facility. He is also the current Canandaigua Central School District Aquatics Director and in his 9th season as head coach for the boys' swim team at the Canandaigua Academy.
 
Dylan has led the Braves to five sectional Class B titles and a Class A runner-up title while also achieving four Section V, Class B Coach of the Year titles in 2019, 2020, 2021, and 2022.
 
As a former Fairport High School swim team captain, Dylan was also a three-time Class A sectional champion, NYS finalist, All-Greater Rochester team member, and high school All American.
 
Dylan attended SUNY Cortland, where he would earn his Bachelor's in Physical Education. Dylan also swam for the Red Dragons for 4 years and broke two school and conference relay records. Continuing at Cortland after graduation, he served as a graduate assistant coach while obtaining his Master's in Environmental and Outdoor Education.
 
Additionally, he has significant coaching experience in his leadership with the CAST/Cortland Adaptive Swim Team, an age group swim program for children with special needs.
 
Dylan loves having adventures with his wife, two sons, family, and friends by hiking, backpacking, mountain biking, rock climbing, and cross-country skiing. However, what Dylan loves the most is inspiring people to be the best version of themselves.
 
Carly Gleber Lead Age Group Coach (MD)

Coach Carly is entering her 6th year as our Lead Age Group Coach. A member of FAST for nearly three decades, Carly has been involved of all facets of our programming, from the grassroots level all the way to our Senior program swimmers. Carly is also the Learn-to-Swim Director of the FAST Swim School, an instructional swim program designed for children aged 5-12 years old.

Jenn Bade Lead Developmental Coach (MD)

Coach Jenn has been with FAST for nearly two decades, starting as a young swimmer in our age group program. Jenn has held numerous positions with FAST, but has most recently taken on the role of Lead Developmental group coach, working with our grassroots level athletes ages 6 to 9 years old on the "FUN"damentals of swimming, alongside fostering a love for the sport at young age.

Douglas Webb Age Group & Senior Coach (MD/FHS)

Coach Doug has been on the FAST coaching staff since 2023 and serves as an Age Group & Senior coach.

A man of many talents, he works primarily with our Pre-Team and Developmental groups, teaching them the basics of swimming in a fun, safe, and supportive environment, and also works with our Senior Prep & Senior groups on technique and power training, utilizing power towers, power racks, and, GMX7 resistance systems. 

Doug is also a certified Stroke & Turn official and helps coordinate events that FAST hosts on an annual basis.

Ricky Henahan Lead Senior Prep/Senior Coach (IHS)

Coach Ricky Henahan is returning to FAST as the Lead Senior Prep & Senior Coach at our West Irondequoit training site for the Fall 2024 season. Coach Ricky is one of the most prestigious swimmers in FAST history.

Coach Ricky's most notable achievements in his swimming career:

  • 2x USA Olympic Trials Qualifier, representing FAST in 2008 and 2012; 100-meter backstroke.
  • All-Time University of Tennessee Top-10: 100-yard backstroke (46.60) and the 200-yard backstroke (1:42.74).
  • 11-Time Collegiate All-American, University of Tennessee: 100-yd back, 200-yd back, 200-yd medley relay, 400-yd medley relay.
  • 7-Time High School All-American, Irondequoit High School: 50-yard free, 100-yard backstroke, 100-yard butterfly, 200-yard individual medley.
  • 2-Time NYS High School Individual State Champion: 100-yard backstroke & NYS record holder.
  • Section 5 Swimming & Diving Hall of Fame Member
  • Youngest Niagara LSC Athlete to break 1:50 in the 200-yard backstroke at Age 16 going a 1:48.
  • Ranked top-10 Nationally in the 100-yard backstroke & 100-meter backstroke, ages 16-18, 3 years consecutively.
  • NSCA Junior National Champion, 2008: 50-meter backstroke, 100-meter backstroke.
  • USA Swimming Junior National top-5 placer: 100-meter backstroke, 200-meter backstroke.
  • USA Swimming Senior National Qualifier, U.S. Open Qualifier: 50-meter freestyle, 100-meter butterfly, 100-meter backstroke, 200-meter backstroke.
